The next adventure This locomotive has had an interesting past. In the 40 years since it first entered service (built 1979 according to a half-assed search) it has travelled millions of miles and its fading Action Red paint is a testament to that story. Rail photography site results show it in various locations across the CPR network in both Canada and the U.S., with plenty of that time spent in the great plains region. Fitting, then, that CP 5906 will be getting a new lease on life at the Northern Plains Railroad in North Dakota and Minnesota. Also of note in the research was a Michael Da Costa photo from 2008 on RailPictures.net that showed this unit outfitted with cameras and leading the TEC train. On March 30, 2018, CPR tender P5145 for single SD40-2 5906 closed. For whatever reason, it has only made it thus far in the better part of two years. Anyone got insight on that? This 40-year-old is about to embark on its next adventure, beginning with a stop in Sudbury for, presumably, overhaul at Dieselectric Services/Milman Industries. Its years of fighting through the Rockies and the Canadian Shield are over. The plains await.

  1. Love the X’s. Like some sort of protest scheme. ;)

  2. 5906 was initially sold to SPB Equipments of Shawinigan Que. Obviously, like CP 6601 recently, they have resold it to NPR in 2019.
