A westbound VIA train, likely 665 with a scheduled stop at 1748h, led by MLW FPA-4 6793, makes it's stop at the Kitchener station. At left on the engine tracks a CN "FLAMMABLE LIQUID/FUEL" car can be seen; #73121. Much has changed in the 33 years since this image was taken. CN's freight power no longer uses these tracks, now being parked east of here at Kitchener yard on Lancaster Street, and the Ahrens Street crossing was removed about a decade ago for GO Transit expansion. Looking beyond the Margaret Avenue overpass a set of CN power can be seen working the yard. VIA 6793 began as CNR 6793 in 1959, and would continue in VIA service until 1989, later being sold to the Grand Canyon Railway where it still operates today.Peter Raschke photo, Jacob Patterson collection slide.

  1. Much has changed indeed, including both the station search light signal and the VIA painted baggage wagon in the distance, long gone. Thanks for posting, John

  2. When did the searchlight signal go?

  3. Images show the train order searchlight gone by 1992.

  4. Also of note this was the last FPA-4 built by MLW.
