Many of the classic TH&B 40' Steel Boxcars were stencilled "When Empty Return to Port Colborne, Ont", and the TH&B square sided Covered Hoppers were marked "When Empty Return to Welland Ont". The PC destined Boxcars were assigned mainly to the Maple Leaf Mills run, and the Welland Covered Hoppers were used primarily at Electro-Metals (a Union Carbide affiliate that made Ferro-Alloys used in steel making). There were still a few TH&B 40' Steel Boxcars left in the out of service track in Aberdeen where I managed to get this photo in 1985. Unfortunately, no shot of the RTW - Return to Welland cars.
