NARROW GAUGE NEWFOUNDLANDER. On the warm summer afternoon of August 7, 1988 Terra Transport NF210 # 910 waits in the St. John's Yard for her next assignment. This particular unit, was the second one of 26 (909-934) built by GMD of London, ON in 1956 and delivered to forever banish the 2-8-2 Mikados and 4-6-2 Pacifics then operating on the narrow gauge railway. With a CN class of GR-12g, this 1200 hp roadswitcher had C-C 3'6" flexicoil trucks and a top speed of 60 mph. Originally delivered in the CNR's handsome green and gold paint scheme, it was repainted in the 1960's black and red noodle, and finally the 1980's Terra Transport bi-directional arrow. With only seven weeks until the last train, the 910's assignments would be limited but will still traverse the 547 mile mainline. Fortunately this unit would survive the September 30th abandonment and be sold to FCAB and continued operating as their # 1416.
