In a follow up to my GEXR rounding the wye in Guelph's St Patrick's ward I present the attached of OSR MLW RS-18 182 doing the same thing just over two years ago, seen passing the shacks near Sackville St. Of course, following Job 2 to get this shot would result in failure if they pulled into the wye on the south leg with the engine on the 'wrong' end for photos.. so getting this angle was a bit of roulette to what the Conductor wanted to do. Compounding matters, on occasion they'd just run north long hood forward (no need to wye) or just not bother to turn instead going directly into PDI Liquids.. this meant it took quite a bit of effort or luck to get this. I live close so it was easily doable for me :)

  1. I like the Christmas lights.

  2. Wild.. I didn’t even notice.

  3. Behind the 3rd car, the other side of Alice Street, there was at one time, a bunkhouse & 2 stall engine shop. The shop is long gone & the former bunkhouse is now a residence, backing on the other (north) leg of the wye behind the photographer in this photo. If I recall, it is the last house backing onto the tracks, closest to the main track.

  4. Ronald.. thank you… i’ll have to have a closer look. That house is the most dilapidated looking and also has a trailer on site (Guelph does not generally allow trailers full time).

This part of Guelph is “special” to say the least.

  5. I should note, I slept in that bunkhouse a few times & one time, when I stepped out of the shower, a mouse ran across the floor & over my foot. That suggests the “star rating” of the accommodation, but it was free on the other hand. In summer of 1973, I attempted to couple onto a yard engine parked on one the tracks leading to the shop building & the joint didn’t make..& the unit ran into the closed shop door “modifying” it quite a bit.

  6. When was the bunkhouse relocated?

And what jobs would have used the bunkhouse?
