The opposite view
Further to my trip last month, and posting showing the dated furnishings in VIA 8707 Kokanee Park on VIA 005 The Skeena, here is a view in the same car looking towards the staircase to the dome level.
As in the original CP Canadian Park cars, there are six clocks for Canada's time zones (none of them accurate), a stationary desk for writing a post card, and the hallway leading to the Mural Lounge.
What a great car to travel in! :-)

  1. Park car lounge seating as it should be, complete with clocks for each time zone. The only thing missing are the chrome cigarette/drink glass stands. Thank you Paul for recording this “historical” scene, long may it last on the “Skeena” to/from Prince Rupert, on the Churchill train (now and again) and hopefully one day to the Gaspe, John

  2. And in the original CPR Park cars, at that desk there was always a supply of CPR post cars (The Canadian on the Stony Creek Bridge – and other locations such as Castle Mountain)and pens…as an eleven year old I remember writing a couple post cards…then at Thunder Bay depot the News agent did not have postage stamps so my brother and I dashed across the street to the variety shop and stood in line, along with at least two dozen other Canadian passengers, to purchase the stamps. Great Times. BTW prior to VIA placing that mirror above the desk, the CPR had an artistic mural map unique to each Park car shown the location of the park the car is named after.
