Caption: The way it was. This post isn’t meant to spark anger or disappointment for how the railway has vanished from Orangeville. We have already covered that many times over the past years. For me it is this image brings back fond memories not just as an adult but as a child growing up. My family has had long ties to Orangeville. Fond memories of visiting the old witch hat station before it was moved. The old bunkhouse before it was burned. Framing CP’s “moonlight” switching beside the old CP 40’ boxcars before it too vanished. The yard here was once bustling with activity and even had its own engine house. All distant memories now, but fond ones. I’m thankful for the times I spent here as well as following what I still consider one of Ontario’s most scenic rail lines. This visit was a quiet one, and time to walk along the station platform and visit lifeless MP15 333. An engine that can trace its history back to the down on its luck Milwaukee Road. The industry across the tracks has been a long time railroad customer here and in less then a year the tracks will be removed to make way for a new truck loading area, as the railroad pulls out of town for good. The relatively empty rail yard illustrates why the city pulled the plug on the railroad along with other factors. I miss the OBRY, its motive power may not have been enough to entice railfans from far away, but was enough to give many of us a good look at fading branchline railroading. Thanhs for the memories.
