Caption: Canadian Pacific P2g "Mikado" 5406 (built by MLW in 1940) sits at Scarlett Road at the west end of CP's Lambton Yard (on the Galt Sub mainline) in West Toronto. Presumably, the crewmember posing by the pilot and open knuckle coupler is waiting for a helper or "assist" engine to arrive and couple on the front for the trip west on the Galt Sub, climbing the grades up to Orr's Lake.

With dieselization well underway and almost complete on CP, 5406 and other steam engines that remained only had a few months to a year left in service before retirement and the inevitable appointment with the cutting torch.
