Caption: After their stint working passenger, commuter, local and transfer runs in the Southern Ontario area out of Spadina Roundhouse in downtown Toronto in the 50's and 60's, most of CN's 1900-series steam generator equipped GMD-1's migrated north in the early 70's to serve as switchers in Thunder Bay area out of Neebing Yard. Their steam generators were deactivated, and they were reclassified from GRG-12n to GR-12n units. Here, GMD-1 units 1912 and 1916 switch covered hoppers and grain boxcars at the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool's 7B grain elevator along Maureen St. in Fort William.
