Caption: A few days before the official opening of the new Bloor-Danforth subway line for revenue service on February 26th 1966, a special fantrip run was made on the 19th with a short H1 consist over the new subway line, which also included a stopover and visit to the new Greenwood Yard and shops. Here, the train is seen crossing or paused on the Bloor Viaduct (or, Prince Edward Viaduct), showing the new subway track right-of-way running underneath the roadway above.
When it was originally built during the 1910's, the viaduct above the Don Valley only carried automobile and streetcar traffic above, but was built with a lower level with the intent that someday it might be needed for a rapid transit line. Nearly 50 years later in the 1960's, it was made use of by the new crosstown subway line to span the Don Valley between Broadview and Castle Frank stations. A good example of transit infrastructure planning for the future!
