Caption: Nothing like a sunset around Kamloops lake. Here we see The Canadian about to enter the longest tunnel that VIA operates through, the Battle Bluffs Tunnel (2831 feet/863 metres). Though VIA has been through longer tunnels such as: Mount Royal (3.3 miles/5.3 km), Mount McDonald (9.11 miles/14.66 km), and Connaught (5.02 miles/8.08 km) tunnels to name a few, this is all the CN route has to offer. In saying that, Canadian Northern Pacific Railway had made the Ashcroft Subdivision and the first 35 miles of the Yale Subdivision one of the most heavily tunnelled subdivisions in Canada. Between Kamloops and Hope BC, the passengers are under ground for 4 miles of the 160 miles of track. CNoR was so trigger happy with the TNT they blasted 2 tunnels they didn’t even bother using. Now abandoned at Savona an McAbee.
