Caption: When the GO trains are away, the Pyke comes out to play.
Toronto Terminals Railway crews take advantage of the afternoon lull in GO train traffic to replace the frog on a slip switch east of Toronto's Union Station, on one of the ladder tracks by Scott Street Interlocking Tower. Crews work to secure the newly installed frog and take care of any other work as TTR's yellow Pyke crane idles nearby, having lifted the old frog out and aboard boom idler flatcar CP 302839, and placed the new frog in its place.
The small yellow TTR Pyke crane had been a fixture in the corridor for years, puttering around loading rails, changing out switches and doing general maintenance work. As far as research shows, this particular Pyke crane had been in use around Union Station since the 1980's (photos show it previously lettered for GO Transit, taking down the old Strachan Ave crossing tower). The old flatcar, a cast-off from CP (still lettered for CP, and with friction bearing trucks!) was used by TTR for work service for many years, and continued in use after the Pyke crake was donated to the Toronto Railway Museum nearby.

Another great MoW Work Equipment shot!
The TTR rail crane is ex-GO Transit P80901
It is a Pyke Mfg. model 80-18 Rail Crane, serial number 8027. It was built in 1980 at the Pyke plant on Hillcroft Street in Oshawa, ON.
It was delivered new to GO Transit in Milton, ON September 24, 1980.
Thanks for the information Paul! Even the museum didn’t seem sure when it was built (they thought circa 1985) or from whence it came. Now it’s known for sure!
Glad to help out Dan.
Behind the CP 7020 in your other museum post there is a yellow CP track motor car. Do you have a clear shot of it showing the CP running number? If so, I can likely i.d. it as well.
I don’t have a clear shot, but I can make out the number on the front: “2700 61″
Many thanks for that quick reply!
CP 2700-61 is a Woodings Railcar model CBI 2-man inspection track motor car.
It is an early to mid-1980′s build from the Woodings facility in Alexandria, ON.
Both CP and CN purchased a number of the Woodings model CBI and the larger model CBL 4-6-man section track motor car, but nowhere close to the substantial inventory of Fairmont motor cars both railways rostered across their respective systems.
