Easing back into the siding at Mitchell, 581 makes a lift and setoff under the watchful eye of a track foreman. A brief chat, an exchange of coffees, and 581 will be off to Goderich in a few minutes. Nestled beneath the nearby trees, a concrete staircase sits abandoned. Once used by CNR passengers to access the station platform, a revenue passenger has not been seen since the last RDC run in October 1970, with the station gone soon after.

    Great angle! Awesome job at including the former station platform too. Was the set of stairs still intact, that led passengers up to the station? I believe, although not confirmed…the station still remains today as a residence along Hwy.8, if you’re heading to Stratford. Heavily altered, a far cry from what it used to lik like. The late Bill Thompson shared with me once his photo of the station….looks like it was about to be removed, as the platform was taken back away from the line. Again, good for you to use this angle and include something from the ‘yesterday of railroading’.

    The platform is long gone, but these are the stairs, which is all that remains. There is a small foundation there too for a shed that went up after the station was removed. The shed was removed a few years back. I had read a few sources indicating it was dismantled and partially rebuilt nearby, but could not confirm.
