Caption: Not your typical Bill Grandin "drive-by" yard shot: the power for Erie Lackawanna train NE97 sits inside CP's Toronto (Agincourt) Yard, one of many trains detouring through Canada over CN and CP due to Hurricane Agnes damaging EL's rail network in the US. Pictured are EL SD45 3624, C424 2413, U25B 2505 and 2501 (not shown), laying over before continuing their trip west over CP and back into the states.
No Canadian railways ever opted for EMD's big 3600hp V20-powered SD45 model, most preferring the 3000hp SD40/SD40-2 as their normal high horsepower 6-axle unit of choice. EL rostered a sizable fleet of SD45 and SDP45 units, that later joined PRR's fleet in the 1976 Conrail merger.
