10 per on the curve
VIA 692 pokes along at 10 m.p.h. heading north on HBR's Thompson Sub. towards the station stop at Thompson, MB on May 1, 2026.
Numerous locations on HBR's Thompson Sub. drop from the average 30 m.p.h. to 10 in several locations, and 5 m.p.h. through a major bridge work spot.
The track improvements along the entire route to Churchill have been quite noticeable since 2022 when I began traveling after retirement.

  1. Nice view.

  2. Very nice, and snow still on the ground on May 1st ! Thanks for sharing.

  3. Thanks guys.
Taken from the front left seat of VIA 8503 Skyline.
It was another great trip on the Churchill train.
A friend from Ontario was kind enough to join me this time around and we were able to occupy the front right and front left seats of the Skyline car for 90% of the round trip. A great spot for getting unobstructed views.
Not much sun on the way to Churchill, but it turned much nicer for the return leg of the journey.
Yes, there was still quite a bit of snow still on the ground on May 1 which a week later caused some havoc when the late spring melt produced high water at various locations along the of the right-of-way.
