VIA Rail train #85 sits on Track 8 under the Union Station train shed in downtown Toronto, taking on passengers as it awaits its daily 10:55am departure from Toronto to Sarnia. F40PH-2D 6415 does the honours today, with two heavily refurbished 1950's Budd stainless steel coaches trailing.

This is one for the Guelph/Kitchener fellows that used to get excited for shooting VIA #85, but never shot it in Toronto. Commuting in/out of downtown, the sight of #85 was anything but exciting: always a boring VIA F40 with two stainless steel Budd coaches, all day, every day. Exciting for #85 was when it ran 3 cars, which wasn't saying much, or had one of the wrap units. 6415 also had an ugly yellow mis-match of a patch job on the cab for a while, also unappealing (at least its nose flap was closed today).

Still, a bit more appealing than a grey, black and yellow Siemens trainset, I suppose...

  1. Don’t forget the occasional P42 taking this run. Enjoying these early 2000’s shots, Dan.
