Power for both Montreal and Toronto sections of Canadian Pacific's eastbound Canadian sits waiting under the bridge at Paris Street, as CP S3 7091 shuffles passenger cars east of the station in Sudbury. CP FP9 1406 and an F7B sit ahead, while CP FP7 1423, an F7B and FPA2 sit on the other side of the bridge by the fuel racks.

During CP operation, eastbound train #2 "The Canadian" from Vancouver split at Sudbury, with one train heading east to Montreal as train #2, and the other south to Toronto as train #12. The reverse happened with westbound trains #11 from Toronto and #1 from Montreal combining at Sudbury into #1 for Vancouver. Extra passenger cars would be kept at Sudbury, added or removed from consists as they were broken up or combined. Switching power was typically one of the locally-assigned 7000-series MLW S2 units.
