Ahhh, a familiar sight on the Halton. Those searchlights! Nice photo though, I have always loved a good curve shot. I wonder, is it just me or the angle of the signal bridge that a 3rd track may have existed here at some point?
Todd, Good eye. Between Tansley and Burlington West when the CTC was installed the signal bridge structures were built with a provision for a future third track.
You’re welcome Terry. With how much has now been built up in this area….I wasn’t sure if there once was a former siding here, or a track that served an old business.
Has it been triple tracked yet? After all…it would almost seem to be of a good waste of someone who had a keen eye for transit planning…to even consider a 3rd set of rails.
Todd – At one time there may have been a need for a third main or service track as there were seven industrial switches on the South Track and three on the North between Tansley and Burlington West. Today there is one (Quaker State Oil) on the North Track and two (Hanson Brick and Tamarack Lumber) on the South Track. No additional track going in anytime soon.
There was a service track here. It was actually constructed around 2003-2004 for a couple of industries that used rail. But by 2008 – gone, ripped out already. Very short lived. You can see it in google earth when you go back in time to the dates mentioned.
There was also a spur that went to a small industrial park, in the 90′s at least and it too long gone. Where the big UPS building is now was where the spur was once located IIRC
