Deep in the woods of northern Ontario, The Confederation train is "somewhere between Port Arthur and Franz," taking the siding for a meet with Canadian Pacific's westbound Canadian.  Upon arrival at Franz, the Confederation train will take the CPR/ACR interchange track, headed south to the Sault.

Chesley Maidment was able to capture this rare view, and others, while spending the year (yes this trip took a full twelve months) working as a labourer aboard the train.

  1. Picture perfect! Although I swear this photo was used as a reference to an illustration for some as work before….looks familiar to this artist’s eye!
