Caption: Working the weekend shift on a frigid winter's day, double GO Transit F59PH's 528 and 543 charge through Burlington West with Lakeshore line train #924 at last light, kicking up a trail of snow as they bear down on their next stop at Burlington GO Station.
I was told at the time by a source that the twin F59's assigned to many weekend Lakeshore lines trains were not because of reliability issues, but for better acceleration and weekend schedule adherence (6000 horsepower does get the train moving faster than 3000 horsepower). New MP40 units operated in consists like this with an F59PH trailing, but for their break-in period before they were released to operate solo. Some of those LL10 (or 2L10) consists would stay together and operate during the weekdays.
528 would get sold to Trinity Railway Express the next year (and not have to deal with a Canadian winter again), while 543 was sold to AMT in 2011 (only to be later bought back by GO as 582).
