Timetable train No. 83 was a wayfreight between Medicine Hat and Lethbridge, shown here arriving near the east end of Lethbridge at 1430 MDT on Thursday 1974-10-03 when the line still ran through downtown. I have seen many filthy locomotives, and C-424 CP 4204 certainly deserves a prize — imagine the river of muddy water resulting when it finally was washed!

    A C424 doing branchline work out west, very nice! Chances are they sent it back to the guys at St. Luc like that so they could clean it (all of those C424′s were based out of St. Luc at the time, and probably didn’t see service west of Winterpeg all that often).

    what does ‘washed’ mean??? I think it’s a rare day when anything is washed in 2026…

    Back in the day, junior Stephen, some shops took pride in their units and actually had them washed and cleaned!
