    I think there are videos online of this equipment being used to remove the rails in 1989 and 1990 on YouTube.

    Some 1990 action is here: it would appear all the trains stopped running by 1991 as there are none of anything moving in that year online. Subject to local knowledge or further finds.

    According to this recent thread on Trainorders, the locomotives were sold in batches to Chile, the 2′nd batch in 1994. Could it be that the narrow gauge survived in St. Johnns until 1994? were they still on rails until then?
