Maximum power required? The lowly Canadian Pacific #T56 transfer job (West Toronto-Toronto Yard) puts in an evening appearance at Bartlett Avenue along CP's North Toronto Sub with an impressive set of GMD units piled on today: a "Big Mac Attack" up front with CP SD9043MAC units 9127 and 9120, and four classic SD40-2's 5874, 5801, St.L&H 5560, and 5908 following. The trailing units may or may not have been online, but it made for a nice catch anyway. Those 4300 horsepower SD9043MAC units were built with 710G engines as "convertible" units, to be re-engined and converted to 6000 horsepower when EMD's new 4-cycle 265H engine was ready. The process however was more complicated than originally thought (and CP's four H-engine'd 9300's did not perform to impress) so none were ever converted. The SD70ACu rebuilt program later came along as a more practical solution to the SD90MAC's problems.5560 was one of those wreck replacement units included in CP's many SD40-2 orders, built new to replace units Ogden couldn't pull out of the scratch and dent bin at shop and fix. As per notes by the late Bruce Chapman, the original SD40 5560 was wrecked in a grade crossing accident with a government motor grader in Saskatchewan in April 1980, and the government of Saskatchewan paid for a new replacement unit that was ordered by CP in their next SD40-2 order, the CP 5560(:2).

5560 was one of those wreck replacement units included in CP's many SD40-2 orders, built new to replace units Ogden couldn't pull out of the shop's scratch and dent bin to fix. As per notes by the late Bruce Chapman, the original SD40 5560 was wrecked in a grade crossing accident with a government motor grader in Saskatchewan in April 1980, and the government of Saskatchewan paid to "fix it", which ultimately resulted in CP ordering a new Dash-2 replacement unit in their next SD40-2 order and numbering it in its place as CP 5560(:2). The old 5560 remains were scrapped at Angus Shops the same year in 1981.
