Home visiting family in Jarvis, I usually get an opportunity to go for a drive. Knowing this area well, the 'junction' at Imperial Oil never disappoints. Knowing that a 'rare' unit was this far south in Ontario, made this Civic Holiday weekend even better.

Here, led by SOR 3049 and followed by 3404 - foreigner QGRY 6908 are all long hood forward taking a healthy cut of cars to the storage yard, that's behind me on the opposite side of Haldimand Road 55 and then continuing further to the old Stelco (US Steel) plant.

  1. Neat capture Todd! Three things of particular interest here … all 3 long hoods forward (rare indeed), CGC rail cars on the Stelco Spur and Aug 2022 date. Back in the day, CGC cars were routinely tied down on HD50 Hagersville southbound and picked up northbound. However, the capture date was probably 2018 in that CN took back control of the Hagersville Subdivision Sep 18, 2018. This threesome worked together May to August 2018. 3049 had the rear traction motor replaced in Hagersville on Aug 16, 2018. She may have simply been added to the lead of the next northbound freight which might explain the hood forward, etc. From other photos of the Hydro Spur and passing through the AEI, clearly during this same period SOR hauled CGC traffic south to Nanticoke with 591 freight and then back north to Garnet Yard and further northbound when switching CGC enroute to Brantford. I am curious as to why SOR did not utilize the convenience of HD50 during this time frame and, therefore, checking it out. Cheers

  2. Editors note:

Thanks Glenn. I double checked and got my dates confused. This was indeed shot, on May,17th 2018….Victoria Day weekend.
