Caption: After completing its inbound run off the Weston Sub on VIA Rail train #86 (London-Toronto, big yawn for its early 5:20am departure to 8:13am arrival), F40PH-2D 6428 backs its consist of five Budd HEP2 coaches through Bathurst Street on a sunny morning back to the Toronto Maintenance Centre in Mimico. Typical of the era was the yellow add-on rooftop air conditioner (a few units were still running around without one). "Flap open" was normal for about half the VIA F40's you'd see on any given day until the rebuild program did away with that pesky flap by relocating the front MU plug to the pilot. Note the replacement numberboard on the engineer's side, the original possibly a victim of an errant bird while at speed.
