In 1995, Canadian Pacific closed the Connaught Tunnel route to allow deepening the tunnel to accommodate double-stacked container trains, requiring the Macdonald Track to carry both eastward and westward traffic, including Rocky Mountaineer passenger trains. On Wednesday 1995-08-09, eastward GCRC 7488 crossed the Bear Creek bridge at Macdonald Track mileage 78.7M at 1433 PDT, just before entering the Shaughnessy Tunnel.
