KCS 5002 east approaches Piapot with empty grain train 318-598. Piapot, is named after the Plains Cree Chief Piapot, who led a blockade of the CPR right of way near Moose Jaw, during railway construction in 1882 and 1883. The North West Mounted Police were dispatched to remove the blockade and negotiated a peaceful resolution with Chief Piapot to allow construction to resume across the prairies. He was also known for advocating for indigenous rights and negotiating better terms for his people under Treaty 4.
