Caption: GO F59PH 558 prepares to depart Bradford with a southbound deadhead train to Toronto Union Station. It is December 23rd 1999 and early afternoon. Typically, there would be no GO train service here at this time of day, but it GO operated a modified rush hour schedule the days before Christmas and New Years Eve to get commuters home in time before evening festivities. This was the first train of the early afternoon to depart Union Station for Bradford, and I rode it to get some pictures that would have otherwise been impossible during that time of day in 1999. This was a 7-car consist with cab car 215 at the other end, back before their rebuilds when one could stand next to the hogger and observe the tracks ahead. If you look closely, the engineer operating the 558 back to Union can be seen wearing a Santa hat. This photo was taken with my Nikon F50 and Nikkor lens, using Kodak film. Digital photography had not yet taken over and it was anyone's guess how a roll of film would turn out...while those may have been simpler times in some respects, they certainly were also a lot more difficult in others.
