Caption: Amtrak F40PH #268 brings VIA train #98, the Maple Leaf, to a stop in St. Catharines nearing the final miles of its journey from NYC (well, Albany for the locomotive) and its own final miles with Amtrak. P42s were soon to take over. The Maple Leaf was one of the last holdouts for the Amtrak F40s, as VIA crews were not yet accustomed to P32/42 locomotives. Once VIA retired their LRCs and crews became familiar with the P42, Amtrak began deploying their own on this and the Adirondack train. The venerable Amtrak F40s were relegated to the dust bin of history.
