The Promises

Then Reality

Well, it was nice for a while, VIA 6917 East at Cobourg, June 26, 1982 Kodachrome by S.Danko

That overhead hydroline topping the CN telegraph / power line denotes the circa 1853 right of way for the Cobourg and Peterborough Railway – predating the GTR by several years and the CPR by 58 years!

To the left of 6917 are the crossbucks for the CPR George Street level crossing.

Immediate foreground is the north service track providing access to the Wye and to the CNoR trackage. A short distance to the north a section of the former CNoR mainline remains in place (in 2026) – to service the local industrial area. The CNoR mainline right-of-way remains clearly visible and sections of Kerr Street / McArthur Street are located on the located on the CNoR.

  1. Give me those crossbucks please!

    Great photo.

  2. Also, when was George Street cut, to no longer cross the CN tracks?
