A Hard Day's Night

And after working like a dog all day laying rail along the Weston Sub, CN SD40-2W 5262 sits on point of the continuous welded rail (CWR) train, tied down for the night at the Malton GO Station. Sole power, the ratty 5262 has seen better days: its original 70's zebra stripe paint is now faded and rusty from many years of hard use. The CWR equipment behind it bears Transcona Shops (Winnipeg MB) logos, no doubt where it was built up from old flatcars by installing racks and winch equipment to facilitate picking up, storing, and laying long spaghetti-like strands of steel rail. In the distance, the eastbound signals at Woodbine West glow red, protecting the PM rush of westbound GO trains from any unauthorized track movements against them.

And the intrepid photographer, having gotten off the warm confines of the previous GO train for a shot or two, exposes a few more photos in the cold night before the next one home arrives.
