About Dave Brook
I started chasing trains after listening to my grandfathers stories of riding steam through the Rockies, and seeing the ore train in Bracebridge. From that I worked for CN/VIA/GO Transit for 6 years before becoming an air traffic controller. I discovered I liked trains more from the outside than in.

![The second CN SD40-2 I ever saw, and IMHO, still by a wide margin, the best-looking locomotive I've ever seen. There is just something about the balance. It has no bad or ugly angles and that cab was perfection. Too bad it was lost to what appears to be cost cutting. Sitting on the shop tracks with an RS18 trailing....when anything was possible.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/showimage-2024-02-13T192316.566-copy1280-200x150.jpg)

![More CP, than KC today. I leader was expected as it has been on 238 for about a week. But two together....possibly assigned to the job for a while......the chase begins.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/IMG_4437-copy1280-200x150.jpg)

![CP's Holiday Train parked over Water St in Cambridge as the show goes on in the background. In about 15 minutes, it will slowly pull out onto the Grand River Bridge, pause briefly and head for the next show in Ayr, 25 minutes don't the tracks.
And for those "wondering" how I got this shot, I climbed up the riverbank under the bridge, next to the school, and shot this through the fence.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/0H7A7712-Edit-copy1280-200x150.jpg)

![I didn't really realise I had a goal of capturing a leader from every North American railroad passing the iconic Galt Station until today when I heard 134 had a CSX leader. CN, NS, and Ferromex remain. That last one could be a toughie.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/IMG_4323-Edit1280-200x150.jpg)

![Every once in a while, CP does something really remarkable. I heard an eastbound cleared out of Wolverton on the scanner but couldn't make out the number. "Sure, let's try", and out the door I went. I have no idea how it happened but this pair of KCS Belle's had snuck through to Windsor unnoticed and had snuck halfway back to Toronto overnight. You just never know what might show up these days; especially with all the KCS trailing units and inconsistency of the need to go to Detroit where the power is wyed. If it doesn't go CP can provide some pretty interesting lead units.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/IMG_9844-Edit1280-200x150.jpg)

![I'm going to guess this is CP 147...or whatever it was called in those days. All racks, 2 barns, 2 more SD40-2's. IMHO, this was railroading at its bets before AC traction, and DPU's (with their admitted train handling benefits) taking over completely.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/DSC01946-Edit1280-200x150.jpg)

![4 GP40-2's and a new HR412 bring an early 393 into Mac Yard. 393 was usually a Toronto bypass, with lots of newsprint from the northeast US and Quebec. It was also a prime user of MLW power, so this was also a little odd....but nice to see,](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/5320714047_aa2f17b12f_o-copy1280-200x150.jpg)

![For a couple of weeks, we were lucky enough to have 2 of 59 attached to 238-239. There is something very unique about these units all by themselves. That they're mixed into a sea of GE's just makes them more interesting.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/IMG_2884-Edit-copy1280-200x150.jpg)

![In the 80's, VIA ran 5 daily trains along the back route Toronto to London, all with various numbers of Budd Cars. It was all train order territory as well west of Georgetown. Here, 4 Budds are about to hammer the CP diamond on their way west.
I was lucky enough to work these jobs quite a bit when I was hired by CN in 1982. 3 hours and 20 minutes to London, with some really fast running west of Kitchener. Times were good.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/5321279478_57059e9495_o-copy-200x150.jpg)

![Wow.....having just lost the 2 ACU's that were assigned to 238-239 for a month CP's power control geniuses....for they can be nothing but, have very kindly assigned KCS 4842 and CP 8054 to the job for the last two trips. I have no idea how long this will last, but I'll take every opportunity I can get. 238 passes Galt Station; in dire need of a Huntsville style train order signal.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/IMG_4042-Edit-200x150.jpg)

![The "Twins", 7037 and 7030 have joyously been assigned to 238-239 for a few weeks; freedom from the sea of GEs and a real treat. Even more unique and colourful, on this day a pair of BNSF's GE's ar tagging along on the trip to Welland. Tomorrow, (the day 26th of feb that was), there would be 2 239's; the ACU's on the first, and the 2 BNSF's with a raft of empty autoracks for Wolverton. An embarrassment of riches passing Galt Station.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/IMG_2507-Edit-copy1280-200x150.jpg)
