The former CNR Coboconk station has been lifted off its previous foundation and will be incorporated in to a wellness center after sitting empty for a few years. When the station was relocated from its original location it was built in to the side of a hill and given a walk out front that did not improve it's looks. A rendering of the new development shows a deck area in front of the building that should improve the final appearance.

A southbound intermodal has just crossed the trestle over Willow Creek and is about to cross Highway 26. Arnold Mooney posted a shot of the trestle in 1976 with far fewer trees. https://tinyurl.com/ycd7b3py

8055 with 8147 mid train is approaching the Highway 26 crossing just north of the former Midhurst station site. The site of the station is now just a patch of grass, but across the tracks a busy maintenance base remains. A portion of the former passing siding is used as an OCS spur. A huge pile of used ties covers most of the former back track.

The relocated former Coboconk station rests on a hillside adjacent to legion park. The revision to a walkout front messes up the lines of the building a bit.

This unit is part of the Charles Matthews collection at the Simcoe County Museum. It is a modified Ditch Witch and was used to move their equipment around.

Image caption: A bit of a time machine shot. sdforty's shot from 1978 prompted this updated shot. The station was boarded up in the late 80's. When CN abandoned the Newmarket sub north of Bradford in 1996, the land and track to Bradford was purchased by the City of Barrie. The buildings were fully restored in 2011, but ended up in a lawsuit due to a development deal gone sour. Subsequent to that a full archeological assessment is being done to address first nations concerns. The piles of soil and flags are part of that process. Excavation on the site has also revealed the stone foundation of the original Ontario, Simcoe and Huron station. The last run of the VIA Havelock to Toronto train in 1982. At this time the replacement of the bridge over Jacksons Creek was underway with the main track severed and the old bridge removed. The lead RDC car has stopped on the diversion track adjacent to the new bridge structures on the right On the left it looks like a crew from CHEX TV is doing an interview of this event. Photo taken by my Mother.

One for Mother's Day. My Mother poses on on the platform of caboose 437136 while waiting for an excursion trip with ex CP 4-6-0 1057 that ended up short turning at Dranoel due to mechanical issues. My father was the railfan in the family but my Mother was the family photographer and trip organizer. A number of the older photos I have posed here were taken by her skilled eye. Thanks to her planning skills We have ridden trains from La Malbaie QC west to BC, rode Rapidos, Tempos, the Turbo, the Super Continental, Le Petit Train du Nord, Polar Bear Express and the Agawa Canyon train. My mother is now in her late 80's and continues to enjoy travelling by train. If your Mother encouraged and supported your foaming adventures be sure to say thanks.

1001 passes through the Allandale Waterfront GO station on its way back to Utopia. Parking for the GO station is to the right of the tracks. Normally the 160 spaces are full before the last morning train leaves. Today the lot only had 20 cars.

1001 heads back to Utopia with one car after crossing Anne Street in Barrie. After a couple more rail lengths it will be rolling on 80 lb rail.

One for Fathers Day. If your Dad took you out to watch trains, be sure to thank them. We would occasionally drive down Peterborough to see trains blast by on the main line. Did some interesting trips and saw some cool things. Photo my my Brother.

A large transformer on a wide gauge dolly is rotated on a turntable to allow the dolly to be moved to the mounting location of the transformers. The transformer will be rolled off the dolly into position via the rails on top of the dolly and rails at the mounting location. Note that there are four rails on the left side of the turntable and two on the right. The main generator building would be just to the left of the photo. It would appear that the wide gauge rails ran into that building as well. The rails to the right arced around the transformer and breaker areas and connected to the CNR line between Ottawa and Arnprior. My Grandfather worked on several large infrastructure projects in the 1930's and took photos of several locations. Not much in the way of safety gear or appliances in those days other than a hat to keep the sun off your head.
