CN's Regina to Melville train 423 is seen passing through Frankslake Saskatchewan. The church at right was moved to it's current location in 1937, some 26 years after the railway arrived in 1911.

Mobile Grain's Last Mountain Railway makes it's way up the notable grade and out of the valley at Lumsden with three clean SD40s for power. On a side note, if I had a shop like the one in the foreground, I don't link I'd ever need to go in the house again!

Grain loads from Prairie West Terminal (mile 82.1 Kerrobert Sub) are seen near mile 43 of the Macklin Sub with a six-pack of four axle units up front.

Last Mountain Railway makes it'w way north in the last light of the day. The trio of shiny clean SD40-3s is seen just south of the village of Findlater Saskatchewan. The train originated at AGI Foods just north of Regina.

EMDX SD70ACe-T4 #7225 is seen leading CP train 850 through Secretan Saskatchewan in the last light of the day. 60+kmh wind gusts along with normal December temperatures on the prairies made for a very chilly final shot of this chase. These units have often been referred to as "Bananas" by the railfan community, so with that I title this shot.... "Banana In The Freezer".

Built 01/1950 for North Louisiana & Gulf, this 70 year old GE 70-Ton still ears it's keep switching grain cars on the Last Mountain Railway at Aylesbury Saskatchewan. These units have a distinct four stroke bark that sounds more like an ALCO than a GE.

A sunny afternoon in sees 197 making it's way north on the Weyburn subdivision near the town of Lang Saskatchewan with a great consist. CP 7012 and CEFX 1002 make for a wonderful change from the normal.

A fairly clean 8874 leads 113 just west of Grand Coulee Saskatchewan after working "The Hub" (an Intermodal terminal) just west of Regina. With 40cm of snow in the forecast for this weekend, I figured I'd best enjoy the decent weather now.

Talk about vintage! 1949 built EMD NW2, EVRAZ #5 began life as GN 156 then going on to become BN 493. The unit is seen repositioning some scrap gons at the north end of the facility.

With the Thompson River visible at right, IC 2715 is seen leading an eastbound just outside Spences Bridge BC. This train is on the CP Thompson Sub operating in the "Directional Running Zone" with CN's Ashcroft Sub visible across the river.

A solid set of BC Rail units on former BC Rail track might seem like a scene from a bygone era to the undiscerning observer. In reality however this line, the Dawson Creek Subdivision, was four axle only territory in the BCR days and this is a uniquely CN scene. The BCOL 3900's held down this assignment till their retirement earlier in 2010 at which point the Dash8-40CM became the next best option and the subdivision timetable footnote read as follows: "Equipment Restrictions Only the following units may be operated. Units in the number series 2400 and BCOL 4601 to 4625." Given that the subdivision has three mountain grades and that 4600's have 4400HP unlike 2400's that only pack 4000HP, 4600s were soon the standard power for the 578/579 assignment. In this scene 4608, 4604, and 4609 make their way past the rural community of Groundbirch on their return trip to Chetwynd.
