<b> Quadruple 5 eastbound at Hamilton West. </b> EMD SD60F, # 5555 leads train 382 towards Toronto at Hamilton West with a decent lashup on a wonderful late August morning. Thanks to a timely heads-up, I was able to squeeze in getting a shot of this great train before starting my 12 'o clock shift at Staples up the hill in Waterdown.

<b>Fleeting Moments of Summer </b> After working Stuart Street Yard and waiting for some congestion around Jordan to clear up, CN 330 charges out of Hamilton with CN 8897 and BCOL 4646 doing the honours. This wonderful sunset brought an excellent day trackside to a close.

Arguably the best angle in all of Parry Sound, one can view the entire town and miles surrounding from atop the old fire tower, now observation tower. Growing up seeing photographs of Canadian Pacific passenger and freight trains crossing this magnificent bridge in various Canadian railroading books I have always wanted to capture a photo of my own from this location. Although Canadian Pacific no longer runs the trains similar to those captured in Greg McDonnell's book 'Stand Fast, Craigellachie!', for instance, and southbound trains no longer run over this bridge (because of a Directional Running agreement), one can still occasionally get lucky if either CN or CP runs a lengthy train requiring DPU assistance. This is exactly what occurred in this photo, on a crisp July morning, a huge difference compared to the hot and hazy weather days prior. CN Q103 is seen soaring high above town on the Seguin River Trestle with a hotshot stack train for the west coast, leading the train nearly a mile away is CN 8896, in the middle of the train is 2114 and doing the honours on the rear is IC 2698. This train would have a straight shot to St. Cloud over the DRZ section of track in central/northern Ontario.

Minutes before sunrise, a northbound Canadian Pacific freight train soars across the Seguin River trestle in the small town of Parry Sound, Ontario creating a nice silhouette. With a few blasts of the horn and a friendly wave from the crew, this was the start to a good day. Visiting the familys' annual mid-July cottage rental in the town of Burks Falls, nearly 70KM SW of Parry Sound, I decided to hit the road at 0445 to try my luck trackside. After making a quick stop at Timmies - with a Large coffee in hand and a perfectly timed northbound, things couldn't have been more satisfying. Thanks goes to RP contributor W.D Shaw for information on railfanning Parry Sound and suggesting this location for an early morning picture!

Still looking fairly clean, one of CP's newest GE ES44AC's # 9370 runs around its train down the wye into Aberdeen with 10 cars for SteelCare. On a rather newsworthy side note, word has it that Hamilton is to be shut down! By shut down, Hamilton will no longer serve as a crew change point, and all crews operating out of Hamilton will need to re-pool to the south Toronto or south London pool.

Not the most spectacular picture that I have taken, but given the circumstances it was one that I was happy to get because this pair of EMDs sure looked great side-by-side. RLK 3873 was backing into the yard as 330 moved forward, giving me a window of about 2 feet to snap a shot, or I would of had the Macnab Street bridge in the corner of the picture!

Railfanning in the city of Hamilton, Illinois Central Sunday evening rail...a sight for sore eyes indeed, IC 1001 leads train 330 from Sarnia with traffic for Port Robinson at Stuart Street Yard. In the background one can notice something is obviously missing, yes, the 1929 built Bay Street bridge is in the demolition process to make way for a new non-rotted out bridge.

In a scene reminiscent of the past, one can truly get a sense of industrial railroading by following either CP or SOR's belt trackage through North Hamilton. Here, CP's Belt Line job is seen trundling along ex-TH&B trackage at Birmingham St, with Dofasco looming in the distance. With the many power 'upgrades' going on at CP these days, the day will come when it will be impossible to shoot a trio of CP Geeps, get your shots while you can!

With the GJR job headed off north to serve the city of Guelph, OSRX 505 holds a pair of ex RailLink F units (acquired last year) outside of the shop. Little did I know that within a few hours these units were to be transferred west to Woodstock by CP's London Pickup. I remember seeing these units in Goderich last Summer in near derelict condition, and it made me think how much I would love to see them move once again, thankfully they were purchased by the OSR and avoided the scrappers torch.

0620: The second 'longest day' starts early at Bayview Junction for the annual railfan meet, here CN 421 is seen heading towards the Grimsby Sub with freight for Ft. Erie, ON.

Typically a late night train, CP 247 makes an unusual afternoon appearance as it rolls northbound along the Hamilton Sub and through a soybean field on the way to Guelph Junction. Because of the trailing SD40-2s, which seem to be getting even more difficult to catch on the mainline these days, a chase to the Junction ensued.

In this wide angle scene, CP 8951 thunders across the 102 year old trestle above the Bronte Creek in Progreston, ON. The town of Progreston was established around mills that were powered by the nearby waterfall. In the early 1900s Progreston had become a manufacturing centre, however, by the 1950s Progreston had deteriorated to only a handful of residences. Today Progreston remains as a hamlet, part of Carlisle and part of the even larger Hamilton Area.

A foreign leader to the Hamilton Subdivision, CN 5766 leads Sudbury-Buffalo manifest 246 down the Niagara Escarpment on the 'Cow Path' at Hamilton West in absolutely brilliant morning light. The story behind the CN leader is that it is using up some remaining horsepower hours, none-the-less it made for something interesting to shoot and left a group of railfans standing there giddy.

With blossoms in full bloom spring is evident in the small community of Vinemount, Ontario as CP 9007 and 5949 roll through town with a unit Herzog ballast train. This train only added to the list of oddities that made their way across the Hamilton Subdivision on this ideal late May day.

With a pair of GP9s for power, The Pender Job backs its train into a siding along the Ayr Industrial Spur on a gorgeous Victoria Day evening. About half an hour after I took this photo the train dropped its sole hopper car on the ground when proceeding back onto the Galt Sub at the wye.
