At track speed: a twelve car train powered by a FP-9A-FPB4-RS18 (the latter a 3100) lashup is Via CN train #63 the Rapido  at mile 280 CN Kingston subdivision on the approach to the Clarke crossovers in this spring 1977 negative. Note the jointed rail and even so track speed on this super-elevated curve is 90 m.p.h. ( Turbo Trains restricted to 95 m.p.h. (154 k.p.h. in metric-eze)). The late 1970\'s transition from CN & CP owned/operated passenger service  to Via Rail provided many interesting  power & equipment combinations. Photograph location is the ever popular Stephenson Road/Lakeshore Road wooden bridge also referred to as Lovekin – the former station site on the adjacent CP Belleville sub.   1. About 1957-1958, I was at the Brighton station one Sunday morning before church & father was there as his custom to “railfan” before tern was coined.
    That Sunday morning, the “Pool Train” was on the south rail, while the C. P. R. was on the north rail….because of some trouble at Smith’s Falls-Perth.
    By chance an “oil-Royal” was on the head having somehow come east.
    This was _+T H E+_ only drag-race between two Hudsons… CN’s long-legged 5700 and
    the “oil-Royal”.
    Gamely, the “oil-Royal” was keeping pace with the CNR.
    Father and the station-agent gauged their speed to be about 100-mph.
    But, the race would soon be over, as there were “cross-over rails” at Cobourg.
    Something I will never forget.
