The smell and sounds of burbling Alco/MLW power is uniquely Canadian National, even in 1978. One of two FPA-2u (the original 244 engine (1600 HP) replaced with the 1800 HP Alco 251B engine) on the CN roster CN6758 is back to back with FPA-4 6761 ( also present is FPA-4 6774 and FP9A 6539) in this April 1978 negative exposure at the CN Spadina service facility and roundhouse. 1. Editors note: The image may be backlit but we are giving the image points for rarity and age.

  2. Really appreciate the Editors’ special consideration. At the time the negative was exposed it was impossible to take a ‘proper’ roster shot given how units were assembled. Also time was of the essence given the haste Via Rail was repainting equipment. sdfourty.

  3. Beautiful,I wish I had had a good cam then.
