A literal Band of Brothers on the ground as the boys switch a gondola into AJ83 at Max Aicher North America. With the switching now done, the yard foreman and trainee are walking forward to the switch for the next move. The tail end foremen and trainee will be protecting the movement from the rear as they couple onto their train, then all four will get onto the front of the movement to protect road crossings as they head back to Hamilton Yard to end a days work.

  1. Nice one ! Is Hamilton a popular location on CN for training new crew ? I often see two (sometimes three ?) extra crew on the yard jobs.

  2. Basically yes, because as I see it these are the jobs lowest on the totem pole in so far as desire or seniority is concerned. New trainees are sent here so that the more qualified folks, once they have seniority can bump into a different terminal or a conventional job (engineer, conductor, brakeman).

  3. Thanks for the info.

  4. Nice. Shot them passing Mana a bunch of times, never working the facility. Steve, you’re comment above reminds me of something I heard recently while following these jobs around. The crew member without the beltpack control was being referred to as the fireman. Something unique to these jobs, perhaps?

  5. Foreman. Not Fireman.

  6. Nice 4716 link you’ve created, the longer the years between, the better. :-)
It is great to see the 4716 still has a real bell too.

  7. With the locomotive appearing from inside the building, and then the tracks immediately crossing a paved lot, this is a wonderful scene for modeling.

  8. The reporting marks on the photo description and on the loco don’t match. 4316 vs 4716.

  9. Thank you, I’ll get it corrected.
