Caption: And a shot that you could only do (recently - anyone have a photo for Time Machine?) for about a year or two - during construction of the new Cargo Flo yard (and future CN Dundurn plant) the foreground was cleared of poles and trees - and the 1964 built CN Diesel Shop - and in the spring you can shoot Amtrak from the south side as they pass Hamilton Yard. The Burlington Skyway is in the background, as is the lift bridge (which once had rail - as seen in this Paul Sherlock photo) and of course, the pretty part of North Hamilton increasingly gentrifying with Toronto Yuppies, Millenials, and Hipsters looking for a 'cool place to live' near the new GO station. Property values are also going up. The vantage point is called "Crooks St" and you can still watch the action, sorta, except CN's Cargo Flo yard (plastic pellets cars) block all visibility to the mainline. A nice place to watch the water and the rail yard when you have some downtime.

  1. Oh neat! First time I came across Crooks I was pretty excited about what it might mean for shots, but cargoflo quickly dashed that hope. Neat to see it before then.

  2. Wasn’t good for long – it was grown in and full of poles before hand, they cleared it out, then put up poles, then took them down, then put them back.

And now the trees are growing enough to be quite the damper on most shots anyway.
