At around 8:10 in the morning, CN 3941, a former Citirail ES44AC, begins to pull its train out of Mont-Joli yard as it passes by the former taxi stand, at the western end of the yard. The consist that day was pulled by two engines facing the same direction, which is unusual for the Mont-Joli subdivision, as this requires CN to use SFG's tracks in Matapedia to turn around the engines.

  1. Sweet light ! That is a very long way to go to wye the power.

  2. Thanks @Aitch! There used to be a wye closer to Campbellton, at the AV Cell plant in Atholville, but one of the legs were torn up in the 1990s. I assume the crew runs the train LHF between Campbellton and Matapédia on the trip back to Mont-Joli when that happens.

  3. Ahhh, I see. I thought 402/403 were Joffre – Mont-Joli trains. Didn’t know they continued further east. Thanks Ian ! :-)

  4. Ah sorry, i should have mentionned, train 562 (and now 558) completes the run between Mont-Joli and Campbellton with the same engines. Train 402/403 did run all the way to Moncton back before CN took over in 2008 though!

  5. Thanks for the additional info Ian !
