Caption: Back in the mid-2000's when SD40-2's still roamed CN's mainline, a trio of 40's on a freight was just called a normal Tuesday. Today's CN #399 heads through the single-track section of the Halton Sub east of downtown Brampton, between Peel (in the distance) and Brampton East (at Queen Street underpass) with three such examples up front: CN SD40-2 5367 (a rehabilitated ex-UP/MP unit), GTW SD40-3 5940 (one of the Alstom ex-KCS, nee-CN SD40 rebuilds) and BNSF SD40-2 6856 (ex-ATSF in patched ol' Santa Fe blue & yellow).
This shot from the chain link-enclosed pedestrian bridge between Ardglen and Trueman Street was rather tight, and the area was less-than desirable to linger in but fine most of the time (things were just generally sketchy down there, and even now there's still at least one crack house operating on Trueman Street). In the distance, construction crews work on the Kennedy Road underpass to add another bridge span for the Halton Sub double/triple-tracking project underway (note the new rail sitting in the ditch). The odors emitted from the IKO shingle plant and Maple Leaf Foods visible in the background at Kennedy and Orenda were less than pleasant if one was waiting in the vicinity or immediately downwind, and Brampton's famous infamous Highway 410 lingers in the distance as some foreboding place of misfortune for all ye whose rubber tires grace its on-ramps.
