Caption: Canadian Pacific RDC-1 9061 pauses at Orangeville during a Toronto - Owen Sound excursion. Facilities including the 1906 station, bunkhouse, and freight shed fill out the scene. Seeing its last regularly scheduled train on October 30, 1970, the station would remain on this site into the mid-1980s when it was relocated a few blocks north to 35 Armstrong Street. Over the last three decades it has played host to various restaurants, most recently the Barley Vine Rail Co. The Orangeville bunkhouse, originally built as a restaurant in 1943, survived into the OBRY era before succumbing to a fire on March 21, 2006.
CPR 9061, built in 1957, would be sold to VIA in 1978 and rebuilt to VIA 6142 in 1981. 6142 was part of a batch of thirteen RDC-1s purchased by Dallas Area Rapid Transit (now Trinity Railway Express) in 1993, being renumbered to TRE 2002. Ten of these thirteen RDCs were sold in 2017 to AllEarth Rail of Vermont as AERX 2002. AllEarth Rail is a passenger equipment company aiming to develop passenger services throughout the state.

Another stellar photo of the station in service. That station certainly had had it’s ups and downs. When I went to get my first photos back in May 2003, I ate inside. Back then it was an Italian eatery, great atmosphere as the interior was all original. Sadly, a kitchen fire did break out, and the station had to have it’s witches hat roof rebuilt. My last visit was around 2008, and by then it was an asian or Chinese eatery of some sort. However, nice to see it as the Barley Vine Rail Co., while being featured on the hit show “You Gotta Eat Here!”.
