CN RS18 leads a six-car commuter train over the Richelieu River slowing for its Beloeil station stop. On this last day of August 1984, the train faces an uncertain future--it has not been included in the take over of the Deux Montagnes and CP Lakeshore commuter trains by the Montreal Urban Community (MUC) and, indeed, this train and its evening counterpart (No. 900) will make their last runs four years from now (9 September 1988).

    Where was the Beloeil station located?

    Beloeil station was on the west side of the river, near provincial highway 223 which passed (passes) under the St. Hyacinthe sub. You may have seen the VIA publicity shot of an LRC train stopped at that station with Mont St. Hilaire in the background. I should mention that Beloeil was the location of one of the worst Canadian rail accidents back in 1864 where a train went through the open swing bridge, killing 99.
