Fortunate timing in my life with a driver’s licence and vehicle in 1973 allowed me to see the last full year of Fairbanks-Morse locomotive activity on CP, centred on Nelson. On Friday 1974-10-11, a train returning from Midway to Nelson was a prime target, with a mixed consist of CP 4104 leading GM 8509 and FM 8555 and GM 8526, shown here leaving Kraft in forest fire haze and passing the mileboard to Robson West and milepost 28 to Nelson.

  1. This is pretty neat. I have not seen the 4104 in years, probably 30+ years???, which was at the Alberta Pioneer Railroad Museum. Have not kept up with its history, a quick search tells me it is still in operational order (last one of the C liners in that state, nifty). The last sentence brings about the “pretty neat”, especially when she is first up in such a fine photo. :-)
