Caption: GO Transit F59PH 559 is pushing hard on the tail end of Lakeshore West train #921 as it flies by GO's Willowbrook Yard maintenance facilities in Mimico, as viewed from the Islington Avenue overpass. A few new MP40's have infiltrated the ranks of seasoned F59's under the canopy awaiting dispatch for PM rush hours. Visible are units 561, 610, 544, 531, 608, and 601. F59 562 can be seen in distance, turned west(!) to serve as the Willowbrook shop switcher. A few more new MP40's were also scattered on the property at the time.
Compare this "classic GO green" shot to a more present-day view (one for the Time Machine files) taken by Terry O'Shell of Willowbrook Yard in 2026, with more than a few more shades of Metrolinx green visible: https://www.railpictures.ca/?attachment_id=58939. A few other changes noted since then have been the demolition of the old National Silicates plant in the background, and the redevelopment of the Mimico Correctional Centre visible by the "Jailhouse Lead" in the distance (it was interesting walking by the very tall chain-link fence topped with barbed wire around the border, keeping the inmates inside the grounds).
Today's trip wasn't for GO units however, rather, to shoot the lineup of brand new EMD Class 66 units from the GMD London plant that were stored at CN's Mimico Yard to the south, awaiting forwarding by CN to the Toronto Port Authority for shipment overseas: http://www.railpictures.ca/?attachment_id=16369 http://www.railpictures.ca/?attachment_id=5167
