Here is a nice view of the old CN Brampton Station. Sign on fencing shows the influence of GO Transit here is just beginning. I have not been back to this spot in the 37 years since I took this photo, but I rather doubt there is all that much change, other than a massive parking lot for GO. Photo is looking westward.

  1. If you were to visit up to 2007, the whole scene would have looked pretty much identical (minus small differences like platform fencing and the switch in foreground). In ’08 GO started work adding a second platform, which started the changes. Signals etc were modernized in mid-2007 when ATCS went in.

The city of Brampton and Ryerson University actually planned to put their new campus right here in the parking lot right beside the station building to the west, a poor spot given the old narrow streets and tightness of the area IMHO (old neighbourhood, no room to expand, but they wanted it downtown close to transit). Since the funding got pulled by the guvvyment, it’s up in the air though.

  2. There have been a few changes – quite a few in fact – but the old station building survives.

  3. I lived about two blocks away when this photo was taken. Don’t remember too much as I was a toddler, but I do remember the trains :)
