Here's s shot of the old Peterborough CP station taken in 1977. I doubt much has changed at this location today. The structure was deemed "Historical" back in 1998, fortunately, as it is the last surviving station in the city. It was built back in 1884, and is considered one of the oldest CP stations in Canada that still survives on its original site. Train service was discontinued here in Jan 1990 after the infamous Mulroney rail cuts. This is a CP line but technically it is now Kawartha Lakes Rwy, an internal shortline of CP.

  1. LOVE IT Arnold! ????????????

  2. Thanks for one from my home town. I Rode the Budd cars from there to Toronto many times. The canopy was removed shortly after this photo. The station is now the chamber of commerce. The Coop burned down in a spectacular fire a few years later.

  3. The building across George Street is still there, but painted white now.

  4. Didn’t they park the Quaker Oats switcher here? Yes Mulroney, that B*st*rd. He killed off my Dad’s job too with Free Trade. And the Kawartha Lakes Rwy, a tax write off? Sorry for the politics. Another great stn pic Mr Mooney!

  5. I find it interesting that the station stop is PETERBORO, and not Peterborough… I know both have been used as the towns name….nice image

  6. I recall the switcher being parked on the Co-op spur during this timeframe. It looks like the greasy spot in the foreground was used as well.

  7. I was born in the other Peterborough. The one of Gresley A4′s, Class 55 Deltic’s and Valenta HST’s.
