Here’s the interesting part about this neat photo: it’s actually a CP car. There’s a lot of hints, but one big giveaway (can anyone spot it?)

The little bits of CP red/orange paint?
I wonder if the fire was mostly inside the box? Anything standing away from it, handrails, brake wheel and platform/ components, end ladder, angle cock, etc. still have red paint.
Emphasis on the “Action” in Action Red.

That end handrail is typical of the style CP added to the ends of their cars when they were “modernized” (roofwalk removed/A-end ladders cut down). There’s also lots of red bits unburnt, but the one “tell” that makes it is the bit of white and black multimark paint at the top left corner not burnt off.
This should be a CP 141700-142199 series 40′ boxcar (built CC&F 1955) with Superior 5-panel 6′ doors and diagonal panel roof. I’ve built a few in HO scale out of Intermountain cars and scratchbuilt doors to get the exact prototype.
