I had wanted to get a shot here for a while. A CN on the Stamford Sub passing over the CP Hamilton Sub. Knowing CN 531 typically departs at 1600 from Port Robinson, I went to go see it there. As it left I took off towards Welland. However, I clearly forgot to factor in the many granny drivers in Niagara, so things didn't go as planned. I ended up being a dead head to head chase with 531, and then finally got ahead. However, when I rushed down to the CP ROW, I was welcomed with dead silence for several minutes. Southern Yard is just north of here, and it was clear to me he was working the yard, much to my relief. Nonetheless, I was a bit perplexed to see it cross with a single loaded centerbeam. I could guess where this single centerbeam was going, but I won't. I decided to chase after it, which was a mistake, as CP 255 was coming. I was not aware of this until I saw CN 531 meeting it at Robbins, and at that point it was too late, as I was hit by constant red lights on the way back. Sometimes luck gets countered by a lack of it.

The signal bridge in the distance is the former Brookfield controlled interlocking, where the CP Hamilton Sub once went to Niagara Falls. All there is now is an advance signal for CP to merge onto the CN Stamford Sub at Robbins, and a connecting track onto the former Hamilton Sub to Niagara Falls, which is now the Montrose Sub.

  1. This is pretty awesome, and quite unique to see a 531 look like this. The centrebeam may have been for the lumber place in Fort Erie. I’m told it’s switched quite often, in the winter especially.
