I very much enjoy the TH&B, and when some RP.CA photographers share their TH&B shots I am incredibly grateful to see them. But this is about as close as I'll get. Back when it wasn't in the deadline, TH&B 51 sits outside, uncoupled of the front of OSR's Salford Shops in gorgeous morning light. It was here a while before going into the rear of the deadline where it remains today. Due to braking systems that are no longer certified by Transport Canada, it is not permitted to be used in revenue service. (Per OSR shop forces).

  1. I really enjoy the creative use of buckets to cap the stacks.

Since this is the oldest TH&B diesel, and possibly the only extant TH&B unit that hasn’t been modified extensively, it really deserves to make it to a museum somewhere if there is no hope of it returning to service somehow.

  2. What, so Waterloo Central 0-6-0 #9 has a replacement brake system ??

  3. That’s the plan Jakob, but it’s up to OSR to decide what to do and when.

Bruce, I’m not familiar with the regulations on steam or diesel braking systems, but Mr. Willsie explained it like this to me one day with respect to #51 – too expensive or prohibitive to replace and not usable in revenue service.

  4. Great TH&B picture Stephen. Thank you Bill
